Experiencing Imagination: The Rodari and Schiavon Exhibition in Omegna
This year marks half a century since the publication of Grammatica della Fantasia (The Grammar of Fantasy), Gianni Rodari's groundbreaking theoretical work on storytelling and creativity. To celebrate this milestone, Einaudi Ragazzi has released a stunning special edition, beautifully illustrated throughout by artist Lucio Schiavon.
In honor of this significant anniversary, the Parco della Fantasia in Omegna—Rodari's birthplace—has mounted an extraordinary exhibition at the Forum Museum showcasing Schiavon's remarkable artistic interpretations. The exhibition, titled "Lucio Schiavon in mostra!" (Lucio Schiavon on Display!), opened on Saturday, October 14, 2023, and will remain on view through mid-November.
An Interactive Celebration of Creativity
This exhibition does more than simply display Schiavon's artwork—it actively engages visitors in exploring creativity, visual culture, and the illustration techniques employed by the artist. Beyond admiring the stunning visuals, attendees are invited to participate directly and interact with the displayed works, making this a truly immersive experience.
Visit "Lucio Schiavon in mostra!" through November 12, 2023
Hours: Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM and 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM | Sunday, 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM
About the Artist
Venetian artist Lucio Schiavon brings a wealth of experience to this project. His artistic body of work frequently draws from his cultural heritage and Venetian roots, infused with strong themes of civic engagement. Notably, his powerful exploration of El mostro—the Marghera Petrochemical complex—examined the contradictions of industrial development through both animated documentary and book form.
For the 50th anniversary edition of Grammar of Fantasy, Schiavon chose a striking palette of black, yellow, and red, employing collage techniques with remarkable effect. His incorporation of Eastern characters—drawn from materials he had at home—proved unexpectedly perfect for capturing the universality of Rodari's poetic vision: "all uses of words for everyone."
More Schiavon Illustrations
This is an exhibition not to be missed—a wonderful opportunity to experience the intersection of Rodari's timeless storytelling wisdom and Schiavon's contemporary visual artistry.
